This year the DABB Generals Day is on 3rd July 2026 at Southwark Playhouse - See below which dates you MUST keep free.
WHAT IS THE DABB GENERALS DAY
The DABB Generals Day is an opportunity for Global Majority actors to showcase their talent directly to industry professionals, including Acting Agents, Voiceover Agents, Casting Directors across Film, TV, Theatre, Voiceover, Motion Capture and Performance Capture, as well as Directors, Producers and Theatre companies.
The aim is to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create real, meaningful connections between actors and industry professionals who can play a key role in shaping your career.
Best of all, it is completely FREE to take part, making it accessible to all.
The DABB Generals Day is delivered in partnership with Spotlight and Southwark Playhouse.

All actors taking part this year will get:

12 months of free Spotlight membership

If actors are already a Spotlight member, their membership will be renewed free of charge for a further 12 months
WHO CAN APPLY?
Actors of all ages and at any stage in their career are welcome to apply.
To be eligible, you must identify as an actor from the Global Majority, including:

Black
-
BESEA (Black, East, and Southeast Asian)

MENA (Middle Eastern and North African)
-
Central and South American
-
Polynesian / Pacific Islander
-
Asian
We strongly encourage applications from talented individuals from these underrepresented communities.
Please note:

Actors currently in their first or second year of training are not eligible to apply.

Actors in their final year of training are eligible.

You must not be starting training in the same year as your application (e.g. beginning drama school in September after applying).

You must be eligible to work in the UK.

The DABB Generals Day at Southwark Playhouse
WHAT TO PREPARE:
1ST ROUND - SELF TAPE
You are required to submit:
1. A Monologue (Required)

Maximum 1.5 minutes (strictly)
-
Any genre
-
Can be self-written
-
Should be performed in a self-tape setting (or as close as possible)

Must be filmed in landscape
-
We recommend avoiding classical text

2. A Song (Optional)
-
Only if singing is relevant to your career (e.g. musical theatre)

Must be performed a cappella

Submitting a song is completely optional
-
If you choose to include a song, it can be recorded separately, but must be edited together with your monologue into one continuous video so it can be viewed seamlessly

Please note:
If you submit both a monologue and a song, we may choose to progress only one of these as part of the selection process.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Below covers the most common questions about DABB Generals Day 2026 and the application process. --- WHO CAN APPLY? DABB Generals Day is open to Global Majority actors based in the UK. We define Global Majority as people who identify as Black, Asian, Brown, Mixed Heritage, Indigenous, or from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds. Applicants must be based in the United Kingdom and eligible to work here. --- IS IT FREE TO APPLY? Yes. There is no cost to apply or take part in DABB Generals Day. --- IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT? No. There is no age restriction. We welcome applications from performers at all stages of their career. --- IS THERE A GENDER REQUIREMENT? No. DABB Generals Day is open to all gender identities. --- DO I NEED TO BE A WORKING ACTOR TO APPLY? No. You do not need to be professionally represented or currently working. We welcome both emerging and established performers. --- WHAT MATERIAL SHOULD I SUBMIT? You must submit either: * a monologue * or a monologue plus optional song If you include both, they must be edited into one continuous video. The material you submit is the material you will perform if selected. --- CAN I SUBMIT MORE THAN ONCE? No. Only one submission per applicant will be accepted. If multiple submissions are made, only the first will be reviewed. --- I HAVE APPLIED FOR GENERALS DAY BEFORE. CAN I APPLY AGAIN? Yes. You may apply once per year. Previous applicants and past participants are welcome to reapply. --- DO I NEED PROFESSIONAL SELF-TAPE EQUIPMENT? No. We are not assessing production quality. We are assessing performance. However, your video must be clearly visible, clearly audible, and free from distraction. --- CAN I CHANGE MY SUBMISSION AFTER SENDING IT? No. Once submitted, applications cannot be edited or replaced. Please ensure everything is final before submitting. --- WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I APPLY? All applications will be reviewed by the DABB team. Selected performers will be contacted directly with further details. Due to the volume of submissions, we are unable to provide individual feedback. --- WHAT IS GENERALS DAY? Generals Day is an industry-facing event where selected actors perform in front of casting directors, agents, and industry professionals. It is designed to create direct access between emerging Global Majority talent and decision-makers in the industry. --- WHAT IS THE DEADLINE?
