The Evolution of DABB (Diverse Actors Breaking Barriers)

During his time at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Suraj Shah noticed a significant lack of diversity and representation within the school. This observation inspired him to create a Twitter account to spark conversations on these critical issues. What began as a simple account has now evolved into a robust support system for Global Majority actors.

As the conversations grew, Suraj established the DABB Generals Day, further solidifying the platform's mission. Grace Gates Orgill joined the team after volunteering at auditions, and Lauren came on board following her participation in the first-ever DABB Generals Day.

Since then, DABB has become more proactive, sharing paid casting calls and creating opportunities such as the Cameron Mackintosh Musical Theatre workshop. Suraj later invited Sharon Adugna to join the team, sharing the same vision, followed by Lauren, whose fresh ideas and passion brought new energy to the group.

In 2021, we rebranded from B.A.M.E to DABB (Diverse Actors Breaking Barriers). In 2023, Chenise joined us with her innovative ideas and drive for change. By 2024, we officially became DABBOfficial Limited.

Join us in our mission.
